Marco Banegas-Vasquez/Honduras/Larceny and Assault
ICE Atlanta arrested Marco Banegas-Vasquez, a 43-year-old citizen of Honduras. Banegas-Vasquez’s criminal history includes a conviction for larceny and pending charges for assault with deadly weapon, resisting officer, and shoplifting in Durham County, NC.
Similar to Banegas-Vasquez, on March 6, 2025, the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office in North Carolina encountered a 38-year-old Mexican national following his arrest on multiple felony drug charges.
The individual, who had entered the United States illegally, was charged with three counts of trafficking opium or heroin and one count of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for controlled substances. He was taken into custody and flagged by authorities under the 287(g) program, which allows local law enforcement agencies to collaborate with ICE.
After his arrest, ICE issued an immigration detainer and warrant, and the individual was transferred to ICE custody for further processing. Public records showed this was not his first criminal offense in the U.S., with prior arrests tied to narcotics activity in another state. He is currently being held in an ICE detention facility pending the outcome of removal proceedings.
